Page_views_for_willmarlow

Page views are not a great indicator of the reach of a blog, in my opinion.  For one thing, one visitor can “view” a page 100 times, which is why “unique visitors” is also important to take into consideration.  Also, page views can be driven up by temporary events, such as an extraordinarily popular or newsworthy post, but if those page views don’t get translated into an increased number of subscribers and return visitors, you may never see those hits again.

But, as my web analytics hero Avinash Kaushik says, the actual numbers are less important than the trend of the numbers.  I wanted to share these numbers now in this screenshot, because (a) the trend is positive, and (b) I would like to return three or six months from now to see if the trend upward continues, and to see if we can’t reach some interesting conclusions about what drives true blog growth.

Just as a satisfying side note, when I started this blog not long ago, I felt good when one of my posts had 500 page views, let alone over 20,000 page views like my post from July 20th. And my most recent blog post has had over 3,300 page views in approximately 48 hours.

PS – As another interesting side note: we are one month away from this blog’s one year anniversary.
